NWA Classics 24/7 #29

Jose Lothario v Krusher Kruschev (Houston Wrestling, 8/31/84)

This was all about the punch. Everybody knows Lothario has that killshot in his locker and Kruschev wants nothing to do with it. In the early going he stalls and forces the ref' to step in whenever Lothario cocks that fist. Lothario cocks the fist many times as Kruschev keeps being a shithead and outright cheating. You know what it's all building to and obviously that first haymaker is a doozy. Lothario in Houston is like Lawler in Memphis or Colon in Puerto Rico. It's a special kind of connection that very few wrestlers have ever had; that legendary status in a particular area where the people just live and die with everything they do. There's one old gentleman in a straw hat front row and you can imagine he'd seen Jose work a hundred thousand times. Kruschev engaging in a fist fight was not the surest route to victory and that final uppercut was supreme.

Adrian Street v Rick McCord (Houston Wrestling, 8/31/84)

Pretty much an Adrian Street show. Considering I haven't watched any Street in a while now I kind of loved it. McCord could've been any old warm body off the side of the road and this would've worked. Street's shtick is a hoot - he prances around, thrusts his pelvis in the direction of the referee during the pre-match checks, plants the lips on McCord and everyone just eats it up. When McCord finally puts him on his arse the pop is such that you know Street could've had them reacting for absolutely anybody.
