When 1992 WCW Came To Town

The Steiner Brothers v Bobby Eaton & Larry Zbyszko (Saturday Night, 3/21/92)

Man, Zbyszko is fucking awesome. Not just in the sense that I get a massive kick out of his shtick and whatever, but in the sense that he's a legit fantastic pro-wrestler. The first part of this is really great, with Eaton and Larry bumping and stooging all over the place. Larry is loud as shit and constantly complaining about everything. "SHUT UP!" "AW C'MON!" "HEY! WHAT?!" Crowd are ALL on his case as well; a "Larry Sucks" chant every other minute. There's a great spot where Rick puts him in a headlock and Larry's running around in circles, trying to throw him into the ropes, doing anything to shake him, and Rick casually walks over to Madusa - Larry still in the headlock - and starts doing this kind of wriggling hips taunt. Like, I dunno, imagine Simple Jack doing a Ric Flair "thrusting" impression. The fact he's got a huge grin on his face while he's doing all this makes it even better. Then he lets the headlock go and Larry's sell is priceless. Eaton's much less 'out there' and doesn't have the same outrageous charisma that Larry does, but he takes a couple monster bumps and fuck man he's Bobby Eaton so you know what to expect from him. The first bump has him out on the floor where he thinks he's managed to outsmart the dummy Steiners, high-fiving Madusa before turning around and getting wiped out by a Rick Steiner lariat off the apron. The second has him jumping off the apron only to be caught by Scott and planted with on overhead belly to belly. A little later on, back in the ring this time, he tries to back body drop Scott, but Scott leapfrogs over him instead. Eaton doesn't realise and goes to high five Larry, turning back around into a tilt-a-whirl slam. Scott's fine and everything when they settle into a face in peril section, but this is at its strongest when Eaton and Zbyszko are getting their asses handed to them, and indeed the Steiners are at their best when they're dominating and handing people their asses. Still, the bulk of the match is Eaton and Larry getting their asses handed to them so it's all good. More I think about it the more I feel that this is actually one of the best Steiners tags where they're working traditional southern formula. But fuck that because this is the Eaton and Zbyszko show and it rocks.
